Directions & Info
What: This is a paddling hash at Weedon Island Preserve where there will be 6 unique paddle trails rewarded with 6 different kinds of craft beers. See below for kayak rentals. This is an event for personalized toe tags, etc.
Where: Meet in the SW corner of the Weedon Island Preserve parking lot, located at approximately 1800 Weedon Dr NE, St Petersburg, FL 33702, http://goo.gl/maps/5UUa0. Its the same place we met a few weeks back for Baaad's Farewell Hash.
When: Meet at 12 noon, chalk talk at 12:30 PM, launch starting at 1 PM.
Directions: From I-275 & Dale Mabry, in central Tampa, go south on Dale Mabry for 4.2 miles. Go right, or west on Gandy Blvd for 7.3 miles. Go left, or south on San Martin Blvd NE for 1 mile. Go left on Weedon Island Dr NE for about 1.4 miles and find the parking area on the right. For a map, go to http://goo.gl/maps/6wv4T.
Trail: This will be a preset, "dead hare" trail. On portions it will be "on hare" (follow the hare). On other portions you will need to solve trail. Never pass the hare unless you are advised to do so to solve a check. Once you have launched, please wait for the rest of us so we can all follow this trail as a group. It can take up to 20 minutes for everyone to launch.
Donations: Suggest $7 for drinkers and $3 for non-drinkers.
Kayak Rentals: Call Sweetwater Kayak rentals, at 727-570-4844, and tell them you are with the Jolly Roger group paddling at Weeedon Island, on Sun, Aug 18th, if you need to rent a kayak. They have kayaks available to rent where we will be launching from. Its $40 for a half day starting at 1 PM. Military and AAA members will get a 15% discount ($34). Suggest you have a military member do the renting for you. Let us know if you intend to rent from them when you RSVP.
On After: The on after will be at Kahunas, located at 10515 Gandy Blvd N. To get there from the starting location, go west on Weedon Island Dr, right on San Martin for 1 mile. Left, or west on Gandy for .4 miles and find Kahunas on the right. We expect to get there between 5 and 6 PM. So feel free to meet us there if you like for food, drink and song! RSVP: This is an event! Please let us know if you will be attending and if you plan to rent a kayak from Sweetwater Kayaks. Provide any remarks you may have as well.
